CCG 2979 is a small molecule inhibitor of gene expression of streptokinase (SK), a critical group A streptococcal (GAS) virulence factor; inhibits expression of SK by 60% at 50 uM based on activity assay, also inhibits the production of active SK protein; enhances granulocyte phagocytosis and killing of GAS in an in vitro assay, also protecteds mice from GAS-induced mortality in vivo.
