AN2718 is a small molecule inhibitor of the catalytic activity of the Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC-2) enzyme with IC50 of 0.5 uM and ITC Kd of 86.3 nM, exhibit synergistic antimicrobial effect with Meropenem. AN2718 is an effective antimicrobial agent that can eradicate KPC-2 strains in vitro. AN2718 can disrupt the homeostasis of energy metabolism by altering the NAD/NADH ratio and affecting ATP production, thereby blocking bacteria from growing. AN2718 restores the antimicrobial activity of Meropenem in the treatment of carbapenem resistant infections in vivo.
