BIT225 (BIT-225) is a specific small molecule inhibitor of HIV-1 Vpu ion channel activity, inhibits the release of HIV-1 in human MDM with EC50 of 2.25 uM. BIT225 demonstrates strong activities against a wide panel of HIV-1 isolates, greatly inhibits both single-drug- and multidrug-resistant viral isolates (HIV-1 strain G-92NG003-G3, EC50=1.6 uM). BIT225 has no effect upon the replication of HIV-2, which lacks Vpu protein. BIT225 is post-virus integration, with no direct effects on the HIV-1 enzymes RT and protease.
