Emivirine (MKC-442) is a highly potent and selective inhibitor of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) with IC50 of 8 nM, does not inhibit HIV-1 RNase H, other RTs, or DNA polymerase alpha.
Emivirine (MKC-442) exhibits synergistic inhibition of HIV-1 RT with 3'-azido-2',3'-dideoxythymidine (AZT) 5'-triphosphate (AZT.TP).
Emivirine (MKC-442) potently inhibits HIV-1 (HTLV-IIIB strain) replication in MT-4 cells with IC50 and IC90 vaules of 15 and 98 nM, respectively, also inhibits HIV-1 replication in peripheral blood lymphocytes and monocyte-macrophages.
Emivirine (MKC-442) is equally active against zidovudine-resistant mutants and zidovudine-susceptible strains.
