Zilucoplan (RA101495) binds to the domain of C5 that corresponds to C5b and thereby blocks binding of C5b to complement component C6. Zilucoplan (RA101495) prevents activation of the terminal complement pathway and prevents assembly of the terminal complement complex (previously known as membrane attack complex [C5b-9]), a large hydrophilic pore that can damage and destroy the postsynaptic membrane, disrupt ionic channel conductance, and impair neuromuscular transmission.
