A specific, non-competitive, small molecule cytochrome c oxidase (CcO or complex IV) inhibitor with IC50 of 18.93 uM (CcO from human glioma); displays no inhibition of other mitochondrial complexes or other relevant enzymes (LDH, XO, SOD, GPs etc.); dose-dependently inhibited the proliferation of chemosensitive and chemoresistant glioma cells but does not display toxicity against non-cancer cells; also blcoks cell proliferation and neurosphere formation in cultures of glioma stem cells, inhibits tumor growth in flank xenograft mouse models.
