A potent and selective inhibitor of sterol O-acyltransferase 2 (SOAT2, ACAT2) with IC50 of 11.8 nM, >6,000-fold selectivity over ACAT1; markedly reduces hepatic cholesteryl ester accumulation and improves liver function in lysosomal acid lipase-deficient mice; improves both atherosclerosis and fatty liver progression in cholesterol diet-fed rabbits, shows more potent in vivo efficacy than atorvastatin.
