    Biological Activity

SBT-272 (Bevemipretide) is a brain-penetrant small molecule that stabilizes cardiolipin, a phospholipid found in inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM), thereby restoring mitochondrial structure and respiratory function.
SBT-272 significantly reduced H2O2 production in vitro in permeabilized rat cardiac fibers, reduced the production of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinin, SBT-272 (4 mg/kg) prevented ischemia-reperfusion injury to mitochondria in vivo.
SBT-272 improves mitochondrial integrity of CSMN diseased with TDP-43 pathology.
SBT-272 increases mitochondrial membrane polarization in diseased UMNs.
SBT-272 treatment improves mitochondrial motility in diseased CSMN.
SBT-272 enhances axon outgrowth of diseased CSMN, improves CSMN mitochondria ultrastructure in vivo.
SBT-272 is a small molecule in phase I clinical development with a mechanism of action that improves the integrity of IMM.
