Biological Activity

Seletracetam (ucb 44212) is a high affinity for the synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) than levetiracetam with 10-fold, exhibits anticonvulsant properties in animal models of epilepsy.
Seletracetam (ucb 44212) reduced both the amplitude and repetitive firing of population spikes induced by a high K(+)/low Ca(2+) concentration fluid (HKLCF) in rat hippocampal slices.
Seletracetam (ucb 44212) also showed a potent anti-seizure activity in animal models mimicking partial-onset (kindled animals) and generalized epilepsy (audiogenic seizure susceptible mice and genetic absence epilepsy rats from Strasbourg (GAERS)).
Seletracetam (ucb 44212) also inhibited high-voltage-activated Ca2+ currents and intracellular Ca2+ increase in rat cortical neurons in vitro.
Seletracetam (ucb 44212) significantly reduced both the duration of paroxysmal depolarization shifts (PDSs) with IC50 of 241 nM, significantly reduced HVACCs in pyramidal neurons.
